The Difficult Patient: Finding the Story Behind the Story Workshop

Join authors Dr. Lisa Gruenberg, Dr. Jacob Appel and Dr. Ellen Michaelson for a joint workshop at the 2021 Examined Life Conference. In this 90-minute virtual event, the doctors will use guided exercises utilizing description and dialogue to explore possible backstories for patients who are defined as “difficult”. This interactive workshop is not only beneficial for writers interested in narrative medicine, but is also valuable for clinicians and trainees to help develop empathy, resilience and prevent burnout.
